Carp tureens were mentioned in the 1755 and 1756 Chelsea Sale Catalogues: "Two exceeding fine Carps, and 2 fine dishes to ditto." They occur at least nine times in the two catalogues. The tureens are usually now found without their stands. Smaller similarly formed tureens were also made at Chelsea.
