Charming Pair of two-branch Candelabra with elegant Ormolu bases moulded with leafy branches and rockery. Sitting on the bases are a pair of Meissen Musicians, the man a cello player facing left, wearing pale purple knickerbockers, white tights, black shoes with yellow bows, a white jacket with red lining, a white waistcoat with a blue and green floral motif, a grey hat, his cello tan and black. His companion, a hurdy-gurdy player, facing right, wearing a white skirt with a floral trim at the bottom, a pale pink jacket with puce trim, a white scarf with puce trim around her shoulders, a white hat trimmed in gold and purple with a purple florette. Both figures are seated on trunks attached to bases highlighted in gilt.

 

Kaendler's workbook of 1740-48 describes " 1 sizend Tyroler Magdgen auf der Leyer spielend, 2Thlr. 12g.  1 dergleichen so auf der Cither spielt, und auff dem Huthe eine Feder hat, 2 Thlr. 12g.”
