This Derby figure represents the famous contemporary actor, James Quinn (1693-1766) in the character of Falstaff, who appears in three plays by William Shakespeare: The Merry Wives of Windsor, Henry IV, Part 1 and Henry IV, Part 2.
The figure, with the addition of a beard, is a modification of an earlier Bow model based upon an engraving by James McArdell.
