According to his Taxa, Kändler first modeled a pair of squirrels in August 1732. He recorded a “Ein kleines Eichhörngen” [a small squirrel] a year later in September 1733.
A similar example with black and white coloring was sold at Sotheby's, London, Property from the Collection of Sir Gawaine and Lady Baillie, 1 May 2013, lot 77. Other examples can be found in the Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford and in the James A. de Rothschild Collection at Waddesdon Manor, Aylesbury, United Kingdom.
